Art Déco door & window handles

Art Déco door handle  - GD 29 Rd U Ni

An exceptional example of a German decorative art object which combines the functionality of the Bauhaus style with decor. This type of handle was utilized in the early thirties in many representative buildings. It has not been possible to discover the name of the designer.

Such handles were manufactured, as were those designed by Gropius and Wagenfeld by S.A. Loevy in Berlin. The grip of the handle consists of a hexagonal profile. All the retaining screws are covered with shields. The escutcheons of the series WD 28 with visible screw holes are compatible with these handles, and are suited for use with the window handle GF 29.

Cubic shaped Art Déco door handle - Ku D 30 E Ni

This door handle was also a part of the program of the defunct company S.A. Loevy. As in the case with all the products of the above mentioned company, the accessory parts are interchangeable with any other part of the program.

The shape of the handle indicates not so much the functionalism of the Bauhaus as rather more traits from the Cubist influenced Art Déco period. The light and elegant effect of the handle is obtained by the shifted segments.

Door fitting by Ludwig Wittgenstein - LWD 27 Rd Ni

Between 1926 and 1928, Ludwig Wittgenstein, philosopher and architect, designed and built his home in Vienna in the Kundmanngasse.

He also designed the complete interior including the doors and windows and all associated fittings. For his doors he developed a special handle using a round metal rod which we have taken and reworked to bring it up to today's standards of technology.
